Rhea says....
...I would like to share my experiences as a special invitee at the
International Jewelry Fair in Hong Kong this month.
I had the honour of being selected for the International Jewelry Fair in
Hong Kong to represent India this month. This was organized by the Hong Kong
Jewelry Manufacturers Association from 4th to 7th December ’08 at the Hong
Kong Convention Center. For the first time they had organized this unique
event. Jewelry designers from across the world had been selected & invited
to exhibit their exclusive pieces. The trade & consumers had been invited to
visit the showing. My design with due credits had been featured on their
invite which was sent all over the world.
It was an amazing experience to be part of an international team. There were
designers from Korea, Japan, China, Italy & Brazil to name a few. Each
designer was exhibiting unique designs which were inherent to the culture of
their country. Motifs inherited from traditions, craftsmanship native to
their homeland, styles suiting their contemporary trends all formed part of
this unique collection. A special area had been designated to us –
International Jewelry Designers Arena. Exclusive display units had been
specially created to showcase these fine collections. There was a sumptuous
dinner get together on the first night so that the designers could all meet
& interact with each other. The hospitality offered by HKJMA was splendid.
Overall feedback to Indian handmade jewelry was very good. As a founder
member of the Jewellery Designers Council of India I want to share this
learning experience with the Indian designers - they should emphasize on
Indian motifs & craftsmanship which our culture is so enriched with. When we
exhibit internationally we realize what is lacking there & that there is so
much scope for us to take ‘Brand India’ overseas.
My jewellery is retailed as “RHEA” at Popley La Classique at Bandra & Grand

I received innumerable compliments for the jewelry designed by me. I had
taken my handcrafted couture jewelry made in gold, studded with diamonds &
color stones. Each piece was unique in design, style & craftsmanship. Each
jewelry item had its roots in Indian culture. My earrings were inspired by
the chandeliers of the palaces of Indian royalty & were crafted as
contemporary Jhumkas. I used wood in a traditionally inspired necklace set
created in 22 karat gold with filigree, embossing, die-cutting & gheru
polish. This necklace could be draped as scarf!
My pieces exclusively
designed for DTC-DeBeers for Parmeswar Godrej & Avanti Birla also attracted
a lot of attention. Use of a lot of unusual gemstones has always been a part
of my design style. Award winning Tahitian Trophy brooch & Signity Facet
Award Nail Art ring was well appreciated. The Rolling Mickey diamond pendant
from Disney Fine jewelry created by me got a smiling response!
